Deadpool Preview

[UPDATED 1/17/13:] You can now check out a brand new Deadpool Preview for 2013 by clicking here!

"No more Emo B.S.--the Merc with a Mouth is back, baby!"

So, thanks to Tombstone's serum, Wade Wilson the Merc with a Mouth is minus his healing factor (and cancer?), is handsome again for the first time in many years, has a true friend in Hydra Bob, and a new lease on life!

So does this mean we're gonna see a more stable Deadpool? Responding to that question and the then-rumor that Wade was going to get his looks book, in a Comic Book Resources interview on DEAD in March, Deadpool's scribe Daniel Way had this to say: "If that were to happen--well, I think there's a good possibility that it'd have the opposite effect. Painting a rotten house doesn't increase its structural strength, y'know?"

It's a new day for Deadpool and it looks like it's gonna be fun. A new 3-part arc kicks off for Wade in Deadpool #55, written by Way and illustrated by Shawn Crystal, guest-starring Taskmaster and The Intelligencia...

...and then look for the return of some old Deadpool friends and foes in 'Blacklisted', written by Way and illustrated by the Evil Deadpool arc's Salvador Espin, beginning in Deadpool #58--with Black Box and Black Swan already slated to appear; Black Panther, Jack Black and the Black Eyed Peas mooted for later issues.

After Black Swan debuted during writer Gail Simone's run on the previous Deadpool ongoing, his encounters with Wade were tough-going. And now Black Swan's somehow back from the dead and Deadpool doesn't have his healing factor. $#*£ just got real.

It all starts in Deadpool #55--out now--and you can check out my Review of it here!

"What happens in 'Reborn' is that it becomes known that Deadpool is vulnerable and he's a guy who's pissed off a lot of people," Daniel Way explains to Comic Book Resources. "They'll be coming out of the woodwork to get his ass. So this is Deadpool literally fighting for his life. 'Reborn' is where Deadpool's blood hits the water. 'Blacklisted' is when the sharks show up. There will be a lot of fun enemies out for his blood."

You can check out Way's new interview with Comic Book Resources in full here, and see my Deadpool #56 Review here.

And here's a Preview of Deadpool #57--where, if the story title's anything to go by, it looks like our boy might be starting his comeback!

[UPDATE 6/29]: Then, in August-October, it's gonna be a good few months for those who dug the Spider-Man/Hit Monkey issues of Deadpool, or anyone missing Deadpool Team-Up, as Sept & Oct's Avenging Spider-Man #12-#13 see Wade and Spidey team up once again, this time to take on HIGH SCHOOL, in a story written by Robot Chicken's Kevin Shinik!

And Deadpool's enemies continue to reappear, to take advantage of his newfound mortality, as Deadpool #59-#61 feature the returns of old adversary Black Tom Cassidy, and Spidey & Wade's sparring partner from their previous team-up, Hit Monkey.

  1. An important point- Deadpool is pretty much confirmed to be without his powers for at least 5 more issues. That and the fact that the change carried over to UXF makes this a more substantial change than many people think right now.

  2. Yeah, I'd like to see it stay around for awhile, or permanently, it'll give things a new edge.
